Moving on to today's training... BOXING II with the Revenge Fighters....

TODAY’S FOCUS:

1. Body hook – target is the lower rib cage

2. Double – body hook + hook to the temple

3. Step in – step in with the body hook and use your reach

4. Weave out – weave out with a step, for means of defence


PRO TIPS…

Boxing is all in the shoulders and hips, but especially the shoulders when it comes to extending your reach. Don’t punch short. Imagine a dot on your chin and a dot on your shoulder. Then, when you punch, imagine trying to connect the dots.


When throwing a hook, especially one to the head, be mindful of your elbow. Your focus is landing the hook with your first two knuckles, not the flat part of your fist (your fingers). So in order to do this, you need to have your elbow higher than your wrist so that your fist comes in on an decline angle.


When throwing your body shot or body hook, think about dropping the shoulder of the arm you’re throwing the punch with. This will help extend your stretch but it’ll also make you less square. Remember, the more your opponent can see of your body, the more they can hit because you’re a bigger target. The key goes back to using your shoulders. Drop your shoulder, extend your punch, and use your reach. You don’t want your shoulders or hips square with your opponent.
